I have so many clothes, shoes and jackets and for some reason have an emotional attachment to each piece. I hate getting rid of things, I figure it will be thrown in the trash or never worn again and it makes me sad because I want someone else to enjoy the piece as much as I did. This dilemma has given me an extremely full closet, dresser and shelves. I've thought about bringing my items to a consignment shop, but let's be honest they don't want two trash bags full of clothes and I didn't want to drag them across the streets of South Boston to only bring them back home.

That's when I googled "how to sell my clothes online" and discovered my new favorite app, Poshmark. I downloaded the app and was instantly addicted, I purged my closet and couldn’t stop searching for items to sell. So far, I've made $800 on items that I planned to eventually donate, when I was emotionally ready of course. But, let's be honest, who couldn't use an extra $800 in the bank?

With this post I'm going to share the ins and outs of Poshmark and how you too can make some spare money for that new Canada Goose you've been saving for, or a really nice dinner you wouldn't usually treat yourself to!

ABOUT POSHMARK

  • Download the Mobile App - here you can upload pictures off all your items.

  • The listing stays up until you take it down.

  • Poshmark takes 20% of the selling cost when it sells.

  • The buyer pays S&H.

  • Poshmark emails you a label to tape on the package then you drop it at USPS.

  • USPS has a specific box you can use for Priority Mail.

  • Buyers can make offers on your listing and you can accept, decline or negotiate.

  • You can also send a private offer to those who “like” your items to start negotiations.

  • Buyers can also comment for additional details on the items.

  • For more FAQ, click here.

HOW TO SELL YOUR ITEMS

  • You can offer bundles - meaning a discounted price for purchasing more than one item from your closet.

  • Posh does charge the buyer $7 for shipping, so you might as well offer a discounted rate for more than one purchase. I typically offer 20% off any bundle in my closet and the buyers appreciate that!

  • Make sure you're offering items with some value, don't put items in your closet that you know belong in the trash or donation box. That won't make your closet look great.

  • If you want to sell your items quickly be sure to offer fair pricing - as the ultimate goal is to clean out the closet (and make room for more #confessionsofashopaholic).

HOW TO GET MORE FOLLOWERS – IS IT IMPORTANT?

  • It's so important!

  • Follow other Posher's, share their closets and in turn they will share yours for access more buyers.

  • Share your items in the "Parties" which are themed by brands (Nike, Adidas, Puma, Lululemon, etc). This will expand your market!

THINGS TO REMEMBER IF YOU BUY SOMETHING

  • Always ask for the condition, you'll want to know if there are stains before you spend that hard earned money!

  • Don't feel bad about asking for measurements because once you buy it, you can’t get a refund.

I am not an avid Poshmark shopper but I did give into one item.... the Chloe Women's Hana Medium Leather Satchel. This bag retails for $485 and I purchased it brand new for $170, now that's a steal in my book and I absolutely love this bag!

I've added some pictures below of some of the items I've sold

Free People Sweater, NTW (new with tags) - $45 and retails for $108

J Crew Cocoon Coat - $70 and retails for $140

Feel free to check out my closet or ask me any questions on how to get started
