Girl Wash Your Face
I am in the middle of reading this book and what it's helped me realize is that I only get one shot at life. If life sometimes feels like it's passing you by, check out Rachel Hollis' new book. What it's taught me is that it's time to stop accepting less than I deserve and thinking if I had a different job, man, apartment or car, I could be the person I’ve always wanted to be. Like I mentioned in my Why Am I Writing This Blog post, I am the only person who can control my life and this book has provided some really great insight.
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck
After being told to read this book by 5 different people I finally took the plunge. Manson makes it clear that there are only so many things we can give a f**k about so we need to figure out which ones really matter. It's helped me realize that yes, money is nice, but caring about what you do with your life and having experiences is really what it's all about. If you're up for a refreshing perspective on life that doesn't take the standard approach, check this one out.
If You Have to Cry Go Outside (kendal's favorite book)
If you ever watched the Hills you know that Kelly Cutrone is LC's boss at People's Revolution. Cutrone really advocates in being all about yourself and chasing the things you love even if the skeptics around you disagree. She really does practice what she preaches and is 100% authentically herself. Which is commendable at this day in age because a lot people get lost in just trying to keep up. Some of her ideas and approaches wouldn't be my first choice but she does know how to get sh*t done!
GIRLBOSS
Unless you’re a fashionista, Sophia Amoruso is a less-known name but nonetheless, her flair for business and the unexpected success of her online business, Nasty Gal, make her just as much as an icon as any other e-commerce entrepreneur. She's relatable and so is her story; Amoruso started selling vintage clothes from her San Francisco apartment and started an online empire. If you're looking for some career inspiration grab a copy of her book.
How to Skimm Your Life
I have yet to read this but from what I've read online it's a guidebook to navigate the parts of adulthood we all wish we knew better but are hesitant to actually ask anyone about. The book covers a wide range of topics including how to pair wine with food, networking and negotiating, health insurance, and the US government.
If you're hoping to be more "in-tune" with what's going on in our world, I'd recommend subscribing to their morning newsletter. It's a great way to start the day and makes the morning commute a bit more educational.
How to Win Friends and Influence People
This book was first published in 1937 and was a gift from my mom (thanks mom). The title does sound a bit manipulative but so many people have recommended it I knew it was worth the read. This isn't so much a book on how to influence people as it is an exploration into the workings of the human mind and consciousness. It aims to teach how to respond to simple acts of kindness. Although some of the examples may be outdated it's easy to connect to them.
